They are your body’s natural killer cells and they need to be at the top of their game! Your T-cells. Created in the bone marrow deep inside your body, they are a special type of white blood cell with incredibly important role to keep you healthy.
When it comes to keeping your immune system on the ready for the colder months, it’s essential that you are getting the right daily nutrients to give your body the ability to protect itself. To stay healthy and fight off infections big and small, these amazing little immune cells go after any virus-infected cells, killing off and neutralising them before you even begin to get a sniffle. T-cells quickly identify and eliminate invaders like bacteria, viruses and other germs, but to work at full power, you’ll need to do a few simple things to keep those T-cells happy.
Eat a balanced diet for fresh colourful foods and don’t skip meals if you want to nourish your T-cells to keep your immune system super-powered all winter. Choose foods with high antioxidant value such as mandarins, kiwi fruit, strawberries, broccoli, apples, oranges, carrots and cabbage.
Avoid excess alcohol, smoking, too much sugar and high stress which can suppress your immune system and can make you more vulnerable to illness.
Don’t let the cold days get the better of you; staying away from catching a cold is more than luck, it’s all to do with how well you look after your in-built self-defence team- your immune system!
